Nottingham Forest were expected to make a move for an attacker in the transfer window, with only hours left if a deal is to be sealed.
Evangelos Marinakis wanted to sign a striker in the January window, looking to support Chris Wood in the goalscoring front as Taiwo Awoniyi struggles for form.
There were two key targets in the window as Forest eyed a club-record move for Matheus Cunha who eventually signed a new deal at Wolves, whilst Brentford rejected Forest’s approach for Yoane Wissa as a secondary target.
These setbacks made it seem as though Nuno Espirito Santo would not get the additions to his Forest squad that he was looking for, looking especially unlikely when Marcus Edwards chose Burnley over Forest.
As the clock ticks on the January transfer window, a fresh report has given Forest fans a hint as to what could be expected before 11 pm.

The latest update on Nottingham Forest’s deadline day incoming plans
Reporting for The Telegraph, John Percy has quashed any rumours about significant incoming signings at the City Ground on deadline day, with no plans for any deals.
Percy said: “Nottingham Forest have established a previous reputation for late drama on deadline day but today is expected to be blissfully quiet.”
Outgoings remain a possibility for Forest as Lewis O’Brien is set for a Championship loan, whilst there is a possibility that Emmanuel Dennis could leave the club as Watford and Toulouse have held talks with Dennis.
The Forest manager will be disappointed that Marinakis hasn’t found an incoming deal to strengthen Forest’s chances of qualifying for European football. However, Forest may be looking at some deals with one eye on future seasons.
Nottingham Forest eye future deals on deadline day
Looking beyond the initial disappointment of the January window, Forest will target Cunha again in the summer as the Brazilian agreed a release clause in his new Wolves deal.
Before the window shuts, though, Forest have been eying deals for a number of high-flying EFL talents who could impact the club in future years.
Forest have entered talks for Tyler Bindon from Reading, with any potential deal for the 20-year-old New Zealand international defender involving finishing the season at his League One side on loan.
Further up the pitch, Forest are looking at Tegan Finn from Plymouth who has made four appearances for his Championship club this season.
