Major change behind the scenes at Nottingham Forest as figure is terminated as a director

Nottingham Forest have made great strides on the pitch this season and sit third in the Premier League table.

The Reds reached round five of the FA Cup last night. Forest overcame Exeter at St James’ Park but needed a penalty shootout to see off the League One opposition.

Still, a win is indeed a win. Forest will now hope to recover quickly ahead of a huge game on Saturday against Fulham at Craven Cottage with three more big points up for grabs.

Evangelos Marinakis was desperate for a striker in January. With Forest failing to get one it won’t have impressed the owner that Taiwo Awoniyi suffered a broken nose last night.

Things might be going well on the pitch but now there has been a development away from it too. It would appear as though Marinakis is leaving no stone unturned in a quest to make Forest an established Premier League club.

Major change made by Evangelos Marinakis at Nottingham Forest

It’s not uncommon but Forest have allowed another board member to leave his position with Marinakis seemingly wielding the axe once again.

Martyn Ziegler of The Times has claimed that shareholder Sokratis Kominakis has been stood down as per the latest Companies House filing released today.

Kominakis was part of the consortium that purchased the football club alongside Marinakis but now it appears that he’s gone in a different direction.

In July, Kominakis caused a bit of a stir among the Forest fan base when he donated £100,000 to the Conservative Party with Rishi Sunak still the country’s Prime Minister.

This move is an intriguing one. Marinakis has a long-standing working relationship with Kominakis and it remains to be seen whether it will come out exactly why he’s departed the club.

Marinakis has tweaked with his board since taking over the football club in 2017 and this latest move will spark rumours of another possible appointment to the board.

The Greek businessman knows what he’s doing when it comes to running a football club but clearly something has happened that has led to Kominakis walking away.

It doesn’t feel as though it will be anything sinister. Clearly Kominakis feels as though it’s time for a new chapter in his career and Marinakis hasn’t stood in his way.

Marinakis will continue leaving no stone unturned to turn Forest into a regular club in European competition and it will be interesting to see what this call does in terms of the ownership structure.
