Chris Wood is the man who now sits as the top Nottingham Forest goalscorer when it comes to the Premier League and he’s eclipsed some great strikers at the City Ground.

The striker signed from Newcastle for £15 million. Eddie Howe didn’t really want Wood to leave St James’ Park but in his thirties, the player was keen to make sure he got regular football at the highest level possible.

Wood scored 14 times during the 2023/24 campaign and he’s on 18 with 11 games of the 2024/25 campaign remaining, with the talisman showcasing an unreal level of finishing this season.

Wood signed a new contract in January. That will see him remain on Trentside for two more years at least and there is now a genuine sense that he will finish his playing days at Forest.

Stan Collymore would have likely thrived in the current Forest setup. If one former striker had been able to dispossess Wood in the Reds team it’d have been him and he scored some brilliant goals for the team.

The Nottingham Forest player Stan Collymore called unplayable

Collymore was in fine form for the Reds and he was named in the club’s all-time greatest eleven as part of the 150-year celebrations given his tireless form when he was at the club.

However, Collymore has called his former teammate Bryan Roy ‘unplayable’ in the aftermath of the pair’s lethan playing days, making the claim during An Evening with Stan Collymore event back in 2021.

Roy is the man who has lost his title of Forest’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League era but his brilliance will live long in the memory of the club’s supporters.

He really was a majestic player when he was strutting his stuff at Forest and it’s a shame that his spell on Trentside proved to be shortlived, with Roy spending just three years at the City Ground.

It’s likely that Roy will be gutted to lose his record that has stood for a long time when it comes to goals scored for the club in the Premier League.

Not enough is made of the partnership that Roy and Collymore enjoyed in the Premier League and when Forest finished third in 1994/95, the pair proved unplayable at times.

Roy made a really positive impact at Forest after joining from Foggia as an unknown quantity. He could operate as a striker or out wide and he was lethal when paired with Collymore.

The pair has different qualities with Collymore bringing the power and brute strength to bulldoze defenders and Roy possessing the pace to get in behind defenders and bamboozle them with a dose of flair.

Now, Forest are establishing themselves as a Premier League club once again. Wood is the current goalscoring hero but memories of Roy and Collymore will never be forgotten among the fan base.
