While Forest are unwilling to sell, news has emerged that they may consider accepting an offer, providing one condition is met.

Nottingham Forest will only sell Morgan Gibbs-White if a huge profit can be made

Nottingham Forest signed Gibbs-White from Wolves in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth up to £42.5 million, a significant outlay.

Consequently, as reported by Paul Taylor during a Q&A on The Athletic, the price tag Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis places on the 25-year-old needs to be very high to make any kind of profit on him.

With Forest no longer at risk of breaching PSR rules, there is also no urgent need to part ways with their most valuable assets.

However, Taylor notes that ‘if [Nottingham Forest] want to recruit again this summer, making a big sale would give them more wiggle room to do that.’

Taylor continued: ‘Even if [Nottingham Forest] sold [Gibbs-White] for £70m to £80m, it would not represent a huge profit.’

The journalist concluded that ultimately, ‘profit would have to be the motivation for selling; [Nottingham Forest] would need to recoup enough to sign a replacement and to help keep them the right side of PSR again.’

Nottingham Forest line up targets to replace Morgan Gibbs-White

In the event the club decides to sell Gibbs-White this summer, numerous attacking targets have already been linked to replace him.

Both Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo are admired by Forest, with Wissa also praising Espirito Santo’s side in recent days for their ability to see games out and win them 1-0.

Any sale of Gibbs-White would certainly provide the funds to try and prise one or both of Mbeumo and Wissa from Thomas Frank’s side.

Beyond the Premier League, Fenerbahçe’s attacking midfielder Sebastian Szymanski has also been linked. The 26-year-old has seven goals and nine assists in 49 games in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side this campaign.

Should Gibbs-White be sold, whoever replaces him will certainly have a difficult task living up to the England international’s standards.
