Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has had to undergo surgery after picking up an injury against Leicester City.
The Nigerian was rushed into hospital on Monday after sustaining a ‘serious’ abdominal injury during Forest’s 2-2 draw with the Foxes, according to GiveMeSport.
Having only come on in the 83rd minute, Awoniyi’s collision with the woodwork meant Forest had to play the remainder of the game with ten men, something which caused an outburst from Evangelos Marinakis.
Whilst the extent of the injury is currently unknown, we will unlikely see Awoniyi in a Forest shirt for the rest of the season or perhaps ever again.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest career could be over
Awoniyi has struggled for minutes this campaign, with the record-breaking form of Chris Wood keeping the Nigerian international out of the starting XI.
It hasn’t just been Wood keeping the 27-year-old out of the side, however, with injuries yet again plaguing Awoniyi’s season.
The former Liverpool forward has missed a total of 52 games through injury since arriving at the City Ground in 2022, the sort of record that is preventing him from making a real mark under Nuno Espirito Santo.
So, with yet another injury to consider, is it time for Forest to cut their losses with Awoniyi?
Awoniyi could leave Forest this summer
Forest are planning to spend big this summer, and it seems like striker reinforcements are high on Marinakis’ radar.
Yoane Wissa’s City Ground links are not going away, meanwhile, Forest have already bid for Baris Yilmaz.
So with Forest seemingly targeting forward areas, they may be tempted to part ways with Awoniyi to raise cash.

Everton were interested in Awoniyi back in January and could possibly return for the 27-year-old, possibly opening an avenue to a sale this summer.
