Evangelos Marinakis’ outburst on the pitch after Nottingham Forest drew with Leicester City has dominated the headlines, but further details have revealed the drama continued away from the cameras.
Forest fans were angry with Marinakis in their initial response to the remarkable scenes as the Forest owner was seen lambasting Nuno Espirito Santo after the final whistle.
The backlash continued in the media as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher slammed Marinakis, with plenty feeling that Espirito Santo deserved an apology for the public belittling.
Espirito Santo explained that Marinakis was angry with the Taiwo Awoniyi situation in an attempt to control the spiralling media narrative, but a fresh report has revealed details that once again don’t paint the Greek businessman in a positive light.

Evangelos Marinakis’ anger continued into the City Ground tunnel
Micah Richards hailed Espirito Santo’s reaction to the situation after being put in a situation that no manager should ever be put in, but it didn’t get any easier for the Portuguese coach after walking off the pitch.
According to a report by The Sun, Marinakis’ frustration continued to boil over in the tunnel, with those witnessing the anger suggesting it was even worse than what the TV cameras picked up.
The report said: “His [Marinakis’] temper flared further in the tunnel at the City Ground. Eyewitnesses saw the Greek businessman lose his rag once more with Nuno, before also venting his frustration at Awoniyi himself and the medical staff.”
It seems that the situation has cooled after Marinakis posted a statement on Instagram to help explain the frustration. However, the Greek owner’s natural passion works in both ways, often positively for the Forest squad.
Evangelos Marinakis’ passion often benefits Nottingham Forest
Marinakis suspended his involvement in Forest recently to comply with UEFA competitions, but Sunday clearly showed that his passion for the club hasn’t diminished at all.
Even the specifics of the drama in the tunnel on Sunday have their flipside, as shown when Marinakis was there to congratulate his players after the draw against Liverpool in January.
His passion was again on show in December as Marinakis smashed a TV in the owner’s box to celebrate the victory over Aston Villa, an act you’d not see from fellow Premier League owners.
Clearly, his actions on Sunday shouldn’t be repeated, but Forest fans won’t want to see their owner lose a crucial part of his character, as it’s this passion that drives Marinakis to do all he can to see Forest continue to progress.
