Nottingham Forest have a number of players who have been on international duty before jetting off for a well-deserved summer break.

Ibrahim Sangare shone for the Ivory Coast, whilst Nikola Milenkovic has got himself a couple of caps for Serbia.

Elsewhere, Elliot Anderson is away with the England under-21s at the European Championship, whilst Morgan Gibbs-White was praised by England fans for his efforts against Senegal.

Chris Wood was in action for New Zealand after his 20-goal haul, and Marko Stamenic joined him ahead of his move to Forest, ready for pre-season.

Marko Stamenic stars for New Zealand against Ukraine

Stamenic signed for Forest for around £4.3 million last summer but immediately joined Olympiacos on loan.

The 23-year-old made 23 appearances for the Greek outfit as they lifted the league and cup double, much to the delight of Evangelos Marinakis.

Stamenic will now head to the City Ground, where it’s not quite clear what the future holds for the midfielder.

Based on his performances for New Zealand, however, the Reds might be wise to give him a once-over during the pre-season campaign and see how he performs.

Stamenic bagged a goal against a solid Ukraine outfit, although the All Whites did lose 2-1 on home soil.

Furthermore, the player was awarded the Man of the Match accolade for his display and ahead of the World Cup in 12 months, he will want to be playing regularly.

Forest might look to offload Stamenic against

This could be dependent on whether or not Forest land their primary targets this summer.

If frustrations are evident, then perhaps Stamenic will get the chance to prove himself during the club’s pre-season campaign.

Stamenic did well against Ukraine and that does bode well given that they’re a team who have qualified for a number of major tournaments down the years.

Doing it in the Premier League is a different matter, however, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Kiwi depart either permanently or on loan this summer.
