Nottingham Forest could lose Morgan Gibbs-White this summer transfer window.

Nottingham Forest have held up Morgan Gibbs-White’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur as they believe their captain was approached illegally.

Forest still expected Gibbs-White to leave, however, they could be compensated with cash on top of his £60m release clause.

Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey could replace Gibbs-White, with Nottingham Forest making the 24-year-old a top target.

His former Villa manager Steven Gerrard has already given the Tricky Trees his seal of approval on any forthcoming transfer.

Steven Gerrard massive fan of Nottingham Forest target Jacob Ramsey

Steven Gerrard was a huge fan of Ramsey during his 11-month reign at the West Midlands club and openly admitted that he could be anything he wants following a 2-0 win against Norwich City in December 2021.

“I thought his performance today was outstanding,” Gerrard said. “A few weeks ago we had to change his position for the sake of the team and he was very selfless in his application to do that.

“I think he moved back to his favoured position tonight and I thought his all-around performance was outstanding.

“The goal was top drawer, to carry the ball, play the one two and finish with that strength on your weaker side.

“I think that should be in the running for goal of the month and I’d like to see a better one than that.”

“(He can be] as good as he wants to be. “He’s got all the tools, we’ll give him all the support, he’ll have the environment to develop and grow in.

“We’ll make sure we leave no stone unturned to keep moving him in the right way, but listen he’s going to be a big player for Aston Villa.

“He’s one of their own and it’s my job to keep moving him forward, keep pushing his standards, and make sure that he finds consistency in his game.”

Ramsey would be a real coup

If Forest do manage to land Ramsey’s signature, it’d be a real coup and certainly an addition worthy of replacing Gibbs-White.

Villa could sanction his sale for around £40m, which allows £20m of the Gibbs-White fee to be spent on other areas of the pitch.

James McAtee is also being eyed by Nuno Espirito Santo, so there are plenty of good options out there for the Tricky Trees.

McAtee is expected to leave Manchester City and Pep Guardiola and his chiefs have placed a reasonable £25m price tag on him.
