Nottingham Forest played out another 0-0 pre-season draw on Saturday against Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, but Morgan Gibbs-White was the main topic of discussion.

Gibbs-White started against Monaco after returning to Forest training at the start of the week, much to the disappointment of onlooking Tottenham fans who would’ve been hoping to see him not involved.

In terms of his actual performance, though, Forest fans weren’t impressed with Gibbs-White’s efforts, but he is, of course, a week behind plenty of his teammates who returned for pre-season earlier.

The attacking midfielder was part of the first half XI so didn’t appear in the second 45 minutes, but he did have an interesting interaction with the Forest fans in the stadium that got people talking on social media.

Nottingham Forest fans read into Morgan Gibbs-White gesture

Pre-season fixtures often give the fans the chance to interact with their favourite players, with the more relaxed atmosphere giving time for autographs and pictures.

However, Gibbs-White’s gesture to the Forest fans as he walked off the pitch at the end of the game has left supporters with more questions than answers, amid the context of Tottenham’s ongoing interest.

Gibbs-White was seen making a heart symbol with his hands as the supporters who’d made their way to Chesterfield cheered him on. Of course, this could just be a sign of gratitude for their ongoing support of the team, but the last week of news has left fans panicking.

There was outrage on social media after it was revealed that Gibbs-White had been refusing to negotiate a new contract so it’s fair to say that Forest fans don’t quite know what to think about their star man at the moment, so reading into this gesture is only natural.

It wasn’t all confusion and concern for the fans in attendance, though, as another favourite in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad gave supporters a moment to remember.

Chris Wood gave Nottingham Forest fans a memorable moment

Chris Wood was also part of the first half XI, having reported for pre-season alongside Gibbs-White, in a group that was given extra time away due to international commitments at the end of last season.

The scrappiness of the game meant that the New Zealand international didn’t get the chance to impress the fans on the pitch, but he dedicated time after his run-out to spend with the supporters.

Wood took the time to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans after coming off, ending up spending much of the second half doing this while the game continued behind him.

The action on the pitch wasn’t exciting, but Wood’s generosity will have made the Monaco clash one to remember for those who got to meet him.
