Nottingham Forest are plotting an ambitious swoop for Christopher Nkunku and Chelsea’s latest transfer move might just give them the perfect opportunity to pounce.

It came as a surprise when Nkunku was linked with Forest, given that it wasn’t long ago that he was one of the most exciting attacking talents in European football.

However, his move to Stamford Bridge never quite worked out, leaving Forest with the chance to swoop in and secure a top-level replacement if Morgan Gibbs-White’s move to Tottenham eventually materialises.

Given that Forest fans were excited about the Nkunku link, they’ll be even more hopeful after reading Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on Chelsea’s transfer business.

Chelsea already advancing on Christopher Nkunku replacement

The Blues have been remarkably active in the transfer market ever since Todd Boehly arrived at the club. Even this summer, Chelsea pipped Forest to Liam Delap before going on to seemingly replace him with Joao Pedro of Brighton.

It looks as if Chelsea’s activity could be set to benefit Forest this time, though, as Romano has revealed that Enzo Maresca’s side are close to agreeing terms for Nkunku’s successor.

Romano has reported that Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, who ironically helped the German side replace Nkunku in 2023.

Simons is open to the move so Chelsea are likely to advance quickly on the signing, making Nkunku’s position at Stamford Bridge seemingly untenable.

Other top sides will also be keeping an eye on Nkunku, but if Forest are able to secure the French international, they’ll be adding a whole new dimension to the attack.

Christopher Nkunku would add new elements to Forest’s attack

Nuno Espírito Santo possesses an effective attack at Forest, with last season’s preferred front four all having excelled in one particular role.

With Nkunku, though, the Forest manager would have an attacking talent who is able to play across the front line, offering a level of versatility that could revolutionise the way Forest attack.

Christopher Nkunku in recent seasons

In his standout 21/22 season with Leipzig, Nkunku played all across the attacking midfield area as well as up front, returning an incredible 51 goal contributions to catch the eye of the Premier League.

His first season at Chelsea was plagued by injury, but even last season, Nkunku managed 20 goal contributions that Forest would’ve greatly appreciated.

Whether as a potential replacement for Gibbs-White or just a quality addition across all areas of the attack, Nkunku would bring something special to the City Ground.
