Nottingham Forest are now increasing their efforts to sign more players before the start of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Dan Ndoye has checked in at Forest from Bologna and more will follow the Swiss performer to the club during the transfer window.

Anthony Elanga has left for Newcastle, but Morgan Gibbs-White has penned a new contract to remain on Trentside for at least another season.

Adama Traore is wanted by Forest and now it would appear as though the club are starting to sound out players ahead of a transfer before the window closes.

Nottingham Forest hold talks with Mateus Fernandes

According to The Telegraph, Forest have now held talks over a move to sign Southampton midfielder Fernandes.

Fernandes suffered relegation with the Saints last season and is now valued at around £30 million.

Fernandes typically operates as a conventional central midfielder and played against Forest last season.

Russell Martin was responsible for getting the best out of Fernandes and called him ‘amazing’ during last season’s tough campaign.

The Portuguese performer is way too good for the Championship and Forest have held discussions over a possible deal.

Fernandes would be perfect for Forest

A new central midfielder does feel like the order of the day for Forest.

Douglas Luiz has been linked with Forest and perhaps Fernandes would provide a very useful alternative if that deal proves too complex.

Fernandes is only 21-years-old and he has bags of time on his side, meaning that he will come with considerable resale value if a fee of £30 million can be agreed.

He actually had a comical moment last season when he fell to the floor unchallenged and won a free-kick from Anthony Taylor, who felt Gibbs-White had fouled him.

The moment infuriated Gibbs-White, although his focus for anger was largely towards the referee.

This would be a superb addition to the Forest ranks, however, and hopefully, the talks are ongoing and can bear some fruit when it comes to getting the race won.
