Nottingham Forest have officially confirmed Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach, and he’s already impressed Michael Dawson in his brief time at the club.
Forest announced Postecoglou as the new boss after working quickly to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, who was sacked by the Reds in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Truthfully, Forest fans aren’t convinced by Postecoglou with the memory of his 17th-place finish with Tottenham still fresh, but he did deliver the Europa League to Spurs, which will bode well.
Nottingham Forest News revealed that Postecoglou was Evangelos Marinakis’ dream appointment, and the positivity has continued through former Red Michael Dawson, who has praised one aspect of Postecoglou’s arrival.

Michael Dawson praises early Ange Postecoglou decision
Postecoglou has signed an 18-month deal at Forest with his first match in the dugout a difficult trip to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Australian has chosen to take control at Forest for Saturday’s clash when he could’ve got away with sitting it out, a decision that Dawson has praised.
Dawson said on Sky Sports News: “You know what, I like that from Ange Postecoglou. He could quite easily have not gone to the Emirates; it’s going to be a tough game. But I think he’ll relish it.
“He’s managed Spurs on many occasions there when it’s been very hostile, he could quite easily have gone, look, I won’t take the team, I’ll sit up in the stands. No, he’s getting down to the nitty-gritty and going, I’ll take this challenge on.”
Postecoglou is taking the challenge head-on, then, but it’s no secret that his record against Arsenal with Spurs wasn’t a great one.
Ange Postecoglou’s difficult record against Arsenal
Robert Earnshaw has predicted Forest to finish 6th under Postecoglou in a show of real belief in the 60-year-old, but it would be against the form book if he gets off to a strong start on Saturday.
| Date | Result |
| 24/09/23 | Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham |
| 28/04/24 | Tottenham 2-3 Arsenal |
| 15/09/24 | Tottenham 0-1 Arsenal |
| 15/01/25 | Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham |
In his four matches in charge of Spurs against Arsenal, Postecoglou only managed to pick up one point, which was in his first trip to the Emirates Stadium.
Three defeats followed as Mikel Arteta got the better of the Australian, leaving him with a point to prove against the North London side.
Clearly, a defeat against Arsenal on Saturday won’t define his time at Forest, but Postecoglou will hope to prove any doubters wrong and get his City Ground reign off to the perfect start.
