Nuno Espirito Santo could manage £42m player he wanted Nottingham Forest to sign at his next club

Nottingham Forest have made some changes in recent weeks, with Ange Postecoglou replacing Nuno Espirito Santo as the club’s new head coach.

Espirito Santo led Forest back into Europe for the first time in 30 years during the 2024/25 campaign, but things went south over the summer.

Now departed, Espirito Santo had a falling out with Edu over some of the club’s transfer business, and Evangelos Marinakis opted to send him on his way.

Since leaving Forest, Espirito Santo has been linked with West Ham, and if he moves there, he could finally get to manage a player he wanted at Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo wanted Manuel Fernandes at Forest

Espirito Santo never wanted Douglas Luiz at Forest and instead fancied Southampton player Fernandes.

Edu got his way, though, and Luiz was signed for Forest, and Espirito Santo did things his own way by choosing not to pick the Brazilian.

During the summer, it was claimed that Forest wanted Fernandes, but the £42.5 million price tag placed on him by the Saints put the Reds off.

Fernandes is now at West Ham, and if Espirito Santo ends up there, he will surely relish the chance to manage a player he was so keen to sign.

West Ham have other names on their shortlist for the manager’s job

It’s not completely nailed on that Espirito Santo will get the nod should Graham Potter get sacked.

Gary O’Neil is being eyed for an interview, whilst Slaven Bilic might even be in line for a return to the club.

The only game the Hammers have won this season came against Espirito Santo’s Forest team at the City Ground, with their other four matches ending in defeat.

It would be seriously hard to see Espirito Santo in a different Premier League dugout this season, and hopefully, he doesn’t get the gig.

Fernandes will likely be rooting for Espirito Santo, however, given how much he pushed to sign him during the summer.
