Nottingham Forest are in the market for a new striker during the January transfer window.

Arnaud Kalimuendo has signed for Eintracht Frankfurt, and ultimately, that feels awfully risky with a lack of striking options at the club.

Igor Jesus is playing every minute of every game at the moment, whilst Taiwo Awoniyi looks completely finished at the City Ground.

With Chris Wood out injured for an unspecified amount of time, Forest need a striker in this window if they’re to comfortably avoid relegation this season.

Forest have been linked with Jorgen Strand Larsen but now another name from the Premier League is also doing the rounds.

Nottingham Forest want Evan Ferguson

According to the Daily Mail, Forest have added the name of Brighton striker Ferguson to their list of transfer targets for this transfer window.

Ferguson has spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Roma but the Serie A outfit are looking for a new striker of their own and could send the player back to England.

The Republic of Ireland international has scored five goals and claimed two assists from 20 appearances this season, with Forest now keen to sign him.

Ferguson is only 21 and after 17 goals in 80 appearances in all competitions for Brighton he was allowed to get regular minutes at Roma in the summer.

However, he’s not really been considered a regular starter in Italy and a new club could be on the horizon for the player this month.

Ferguson might provide energy to Dyche’s team

A bit of youthful exuberance in the Forest attack might not be a bad thing for Forest and Ferguson does at least know the Premier League.

The youngster has scored at the City Ground for Brighton previously and with a bit of solid management, he might be capable of doing a job at Forest.

Dyche would have to utilise him properly and more attackers would be needed around him, but with the right strategy, Ferguson could prove very useful indeed.

The Forest head coach should be capable of doing that, given that Dyche pushed hard to take him to Everton when he was in charge at the Merseyside-based outfit.

Alan Shearer called Ferguson a ‘superstar’ back in 2023 and it’s clear that the player can still have a bright future, despite a couple of barren seasons in front of goal.
