Williams has been linked to Manchester United and Newcastle in recent weeks, so it’s a great bit of business from Evangelos Marinakis and his chiefs.

That said, it actually reveals quite a lot about the future of Nottingham Forest.

Neco Williams’ new deal suggests Nottingham Forest mean business

Considering Williams has decided to stay at Forest, snubbing interest from Man United, it very much suggests the future is bright for the East Midlanders.

Clearly, Forest chiefs have pitched a very exciting project to Williams, who Morgan Gibbs-White voted as the Player of the Season last term.

The ambition must be to return to Europe as quickly as possible, and the Wales international has evidently been assured that the squad will be improved this summer transfer window.

Vitor Pereira must also have played a key factor in his decision as well, with the Portuguese boss transforming the team into a top-half side in the form table since his arrival in February.

It’s understood that Pereira is well-liked and has brought a newfound positivity to the dressing room.

Ola Aina recently predicted Forest to qualify for the Champions League next season, so the players must be impressed by the manager’s tactics and convinced he can make big strides with this team.

Forest’s transfer targets have been really encouraging, too, as they’re looking at the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Jhon Lucumi and Santiago Castro.

Those aforementioned three players are all of interest to some of the biggest clubs in Europe, so it shows the kind of market they’re shopping in.

With no European commitments next term and thus fewer games, Forest should be much better equipped to mount a challenge for the top six or seven.
