It was a busy summer transfer window for Nottingham Forest with the Reds investing in a number of new recruits.
The business done over the summer market has certainly paid off with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side flying high in the Premier League.
Players like Elliot Anderson have really impressed since signing for Forest over the summer with the midfielder landing from Newcastle United.
However, with Edu Gaspar set to join Evangelos Marinakis’ setup, there are some promising signs that Forest will be eyeing further talent in the months to come.
Speaking to Nottingham Forest News, TBR Football’s transfer guru Graeme Bailey has shared his understanding on Forest’s reported interest in Mathys Tel.

Nottingham Forest haven’t shown interest in Mathys Tel
In recent days, it has been reported Forest have an interest in Tel of Bayern Munich with talks having already taken place.
It’s claimed Tel is not available on a permanent transfer but he could well be offloaded on loan in the January window.
However, speaking to Nottingham Forest News, Bailey has played down speculation linking the Frenchman to the City Ground.
“My understanding is there’s not much into that, that was played down to me on the Forest end,” said Bailey.
| 2024/25 | Total |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 7 |
| Minutes | 224 |
| Goals | 0 |
| Assists | 0 |
“I think it’s more the players end trying to generate some interest.”
Clearly, this is a young talent who is in search of regular football but that may not be a foregone conclusion with a move to Forest.
Playing off the left, Tel would have some real competition for a spot in the starting XI with Callum Hudson-Odoi really impressing already.
Thomas Tuchel and Harry Kane love Mathys Tel
Speaking to the media last year, both Harry Kane and the new England manager Thomas Tuchel had some big praise to shower on the 19-year-old.
The youngster did have a solid 2023/24 campaign with a return of 10 goals and six assists across all competitions but it’s not been the same under Vincent Kompany, so far.
“He’s started the season really well. I like the way he trains. He’s always pushing himself and is fully committed. Every time he came in he made a difference and is very confident,” said Kane last year.
“Mathys has a high impact off the bench. He is a weapon for us at the moment, we know what he can give us,” added Tuchel.
“He will also start games this season. He is currently showing that he can assist and score goals. We’re taking it step by step with him. He’s on the right track.”
Given how well Forest have performed, perhaps the game time which Bayern and Tel will be looking for may not quite be available at the City Ground.
