Nottingham Forest return to Premier League action on Sunday when Newcastle United make the trip to the City Ground.

For Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this will provide a big opportunity at another three points which would secure their spot in third for the international break.

For a couple of Forest’s players, this game is going to provide them with an opportunity to show their former side just what they’re missing.

Elliot Anderson has received a lot of praise since making the move to Forest with the youngster showing promising signs already.

The Newcastle-born youngster was forced out from Tyneside this summer with Newcastle suffering from PSR issues but he has admitted he’s always been well aware of Forest.

What Elliot Anderson really thinks about Nottingham Forest

It will not have been an easy decision for Anderson to pack up and move on from his boyhood club but it has certainly paid off so far.

Morgan Gibbs-White has been so impressed by Anderson so far since landing at the City Ground with the midfielder showing bags of potential.

And speaking to The Times, Anderson has admitted he’s always had a bit of a soft spot for the Reds even as a child.

“It was a good time for a fresh start and I’ve really enjoyed it. Nottingham Forest is a huge club,” he admitted.

“I always quite liked Forest when I was a kid. I spoke to Chris Wood before I came. He’s taken me under his wing. I just wanted to be playing football, that’s what everyone wants to do. I’ve got off to a good start.”

Anderson did start on the bench last time out with Gibbs-White now fully fit again.

However, there is one former Newcastle player in Chris Wood who Anderson has hailed ahead of the game amid the striker’s stunning run of form.

Nottingham Forest predicted XI vs Newcastle

Unfortunately for Anderson, it is difficult to imagine Nuno looking to make any changes to the starting XI following their impressive win over West Ham.

Forest fans praised Gibbs-White for his display against the Hammers on his return which is not the best of news for Anderson.

And midfielder Nicolas Dominguez has really impressed since coming into the starting XI which leaves very little room for change in the middle of the park.

However, Anderson did show last week that he can come off the bench and make an impact as he grabbed an assist in his 27-minute display.
