Evangelos Marinakis is looking to lure Edu Gaspar to a role that would involve overseeing his multi-club model after leaving Arsenal, but there is a misunderstanding involving Nottingham Forest.

Edu initially joined Arsenal as a technical director in 2019, but was later promoted in 2022 and has been involved in spending around £807 million on 36 signings.

Evangelos Marinakis is eyeing a role for Edu that would oversee his multi-club model as he looks to expand the clubs in his portfolio.

The Nottingham Forest owner is looking to branch out into Asia, South America and other regions.

However, it appears as if many people are getting the whole Nottingham Forest aspect wrong when it comes to Edu, with Ben Jacobs addressing the situation.

The truth about Edu and Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest fans will recognise a couple of signings Edu made at Arsenal. The likes of Nuno Tavares and Matt Turner have moved to the City Ground, with the latter still there.

However, there’s no guarantee that Edu will even be involved with Nottingham Forest, yet alone working with Evangelos Marinakis at all, with time for other offers to come in.

Ben Jacobs has been speaking about Edu and his situation at this moment in time, bringing up Nottingham Forest and what people have been getting wrong about it.

Speaking on the Forest Fan TV YouTube channel, the well-known reporter had this to say.

“I would expect other people to at least be sounding Edu out and therefore there’s no cause for panic at this point about a sort of hijack offer, but until it’s signed it’s certainly not done.

“And at the time we’re recording, let’s see if that changes, for example, during the international break. As we’re speaking now, it’s not signed, but what is agreed in terms of the scope of the role, the freedom and the power that would come with it to work across the multi-club group.

“And in addition to the financials which are understood to be a little bit more generous if you like, compared to the terms that he was on at Arsenal, which is to be expected because this is not a like for like role and people wrongly are painting it as Edu’s leaving Arsenal for Nottingham Forest. He’s not.

“He might be leaving for a multi-club role that’s more like Michael Edwards, so CEO of football or whatever title if he joins they determine.

“And therefore the scope of the role, the power, the pay, it’s basically a promotion from Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, should he take the job, will only be one part of his day-to-day day in the same way that Michael Edwards is not Liverpool he’s FSG.”

Edu is the perfect man for Evangelos Marinakis’ plans

If Edu is given some sort of involvement with Nottingham Forest, he could certainly take their recruitment and contacts to the next level.

The Brazilian has plenty of contacts in his home country, and Marinakis could even use him to help try and push through a deal for Vasco de Gama.

However, as Jacobs says, there is no guarantee he will even be involved much with Forest.

But, given his experience in the Premier League at Arsenal, it would come as a huge surprise if Marinakis didn’t look to make the most of him at Nottingham Forest in some capacity.
