One signing already ruled out at Nottingham Forest as journalist issues update on exciting player

The relationship between Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos is naturally very strong given the Evangelos Marinakis bond.

If there is one thing that Marinakis knows how to do, it’s run a football club – and do it successfully.

He’s won numerous league titles with Olympiacos and last season the club became the first from Greece to win a European trophy.

The success hasn’t been restricted to the Greek giants either, with Marinakis overseeing promotion to the Premier League in 2021/22.

He’s given the Reds the tools to thrive in the top flight and Marinakis recently hired the trusted Lina Souloukou.

Players have been swapped between the two clubs over the years too.

Andreas Bouchalakis, Gustavo Scarpa, Josh Bowler and Joao Carvalho are just some of the players to have swapped between the clubs over the years.

However, there is one player who won’t be making a move to Forest from Olympiacos anytime soon.

There is a new kid on the block in Athens and he’s gathering interest.

Although there has been no official line of enquiry, some Olympiacos fans believe Kostoulas might be soon heading to Nottingham.

However, top Greek journalist Konstantinos Lianos doesn’t believe that to be the case.

He posted on X: “People asking me if Babis Kostoulas could be switched to Nottingham Forest.

“But Forest don’t need him and Babis doesn’t need them.

“Olympiacos have big plans for the UEFA Youth League.

“Key figures getting contract until 2030, no one planning to sell to #NFFC.”

Forest will keep tabs on Kostoulas

We respect Lianos as a solid journalist and a reliable Forest source but in the future, Forest might be in the mix to sign Kostoulas.

If Marinakis gets the slightest sniff of any other Premier League club wanting to sign the young striker, he might choose to do the deal with Forest instead.

Kostoulas has been given game time this season, scoring three goals in 11 games and also registering an assist.

Furthermore, he’s operated in the Europa League, making five appearances for Olympiacos.

Forest were rejected by Santiago Gimenez in the summer and as a result, a striker is still required.

Chris Wood is in the form of his life and with that in mind a striker who is young and talented like Kostoulas could actually be perfect for Forest.

Food for thought for Mr Marinakis perhaps…
