Nottingham Forest handed Matheus Cunha boost as Arsenal make big decision

Nottingham Forest are trying to finalise their squad ahead of the transfer deadline which takes place next Monday, with quality over quantity being the order of the day.

Evangelos Marinakis is desperate to sign a new forward this month. The Reds are currently third in the Premier League and the Forest owner is keen to ensure that the club doesn’t slip away as the business end approaches.

A number of strikers have been linked with the Reds. Igor Jesus has been on the Forest radar for some time and it’s clear that Botafogo would welcome bids in the region of £30 million for his services this month.

Jamie Redknapp thinks Yoane Wissa would cost £40 million this month. With that in mind, the prospects of Forest signing him following recent links does feel a little bit far-fetched considering how notoriously difficult it can be to sign players in January.

Arsenal pull out of Matheus Cunha race

Sadly for Forest, Arsenal – one of the two teams above the club in the Premier League table – are also in desperate need of a striker before the window closes.

That means that the two clubs are in the market for the same players, with Forest and Arsenal keen on Matheus Cunha from Wolves before the window slams shut next week.

Give Me Sport claims, however, that Arsenal won’t be pushing for Cunha before the deadline. Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak are also on their list and both also look unobtainable for the Gunners.

It has to be said that Forest would likely be unwilling to pay £60 million themselves. However, the negotiations with Wolves might prove a bit easier should Arsenal be focusing on other targets.

Morgan Gibbs-White endorses Matheus Cunha transfer

The pair have flung the banter at each other when being on the pitch together as opponents in the past. Cunha has mocked Gibbs-White’s celebration previously but it seems the pair do get on with one and other.

Gibbs-White praised Cunha after a 2-2 draw with Wolves last season. It’s clear that the Forest man doesn’t have a great relationship with Wolves fans following his acrimonious departure and is often keen to rub the salt in.

Getting Cunha and Gibbs-White on the pitch in tandem might prove lethal. Forest could welcome a player who is a little more than a centre-forward and Cunha has proved his versatility at Wolves.
