Rumours of Ramon Sosa’s shock potential exit have surfaced in the January transfer window, a deal that would be bizarre given his short stay in the Premier League.

Boca Juniors showed an interest in Sosa as the winger was linked with a surprise departure from the City Ground in the same season he joined.

After Sosa signed for Forest from Tallares in August, fans may have expected to see the Paraguayan feature more under Nuno Espirito Santo, who has only started Sosa once in the Premier League.

The winger worked hard on his end to secure the move, with Sosa even going as far as to rebel from Tallares training to secure his move to English football.

The Tallares chairman understood Sosa’s protestations, recognising a move to join Espirito Santo’s side would be a career move he couldn’t turn down.

All of this effort to get to English football made the Sosa exit links particularly strange, but those rumours could well be put to bed given his latest interview.

In an interview with the Nottingham Forest website, Sosa made it clear that he had long hoped for a move to the Premier League.

Sosa said: “I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League but because of how my career developed, I wondered if it would be impossible. I was in love with the Premier League. I would finish training and put on the Premier League games.”

When the move came up for the Paraguayan, Forest rivalled Everton for Sosa to ensure the deal went through, a persistence that Sosa clearly appreciated.

He said: “It was amazing when I heard the news that Nottingham Forest wanted me. I had to wait around two months before I could come here because my club didn’t want to let me go. Then when I came here, along with my girlfriend and my agent, it was amazing.

“We stayed that night in the hotel and my girlfriend and I spent most of the night in tears because my dream had come true, and it was a dream that I thought was impossible to achieve.”

His dream may be more fruitful for Sosa in terms of game time after his fellow winger, Jota Silva, struggled in Forest’s 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Forest fans criticised Silva against Bournemouth for his inability to impact the attack in the absence of Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Previously, Espirito Santo placed Silva over Sosa in the Forest squad but this performance from Silva could create some more opportunities for Sosa.

Sosa, in fewer appearances than Silva, manages to create more chances and complete more dribbles in the Premier League this season making him a potentially more valuable option in the Forest squad than his Portuguese teammate.

His enthusiasm for playing for the club has already made him popular with the fans, which, combined with his promising performances, should give Sosa more chances to impress the Forest coaching staff in the coming weeks.
