Nottingham Forest considering move for out-of-contract star who Carlo Ancelotti thinks is a ‘complete striker’

The transfer window is fast approaching, and Nottingham Forest seem fixed on signing a new forward this summer.

Chris Wood has been on fire this season, but at 33 years old, Forest will recognise the need for a more long-term option up top.

Forest have been linked with Matheus Cunha, but the Brazilian’s heart seems set on a switch to Manchester United.

Names such as Jean-Philippe Mateta and Darwin Nunez have also been touted, but with Nunez likely to cost around £38m, the City Ground outfit may consider cheaper options.

With that being said, it seems like Forest have already got their eye on a budget option – namely the free-transfer signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Nottingham Forest considering move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Forest were first linked with Calvert-Lewin back in December, and it seems like Evangelos Marinakis is still keen on signing the Toffees forward.

The striker’s contract at Goodison expires this summer, and a host of Premier League teams, including Forest, are reportedly eyeing up the 28-year-old on a possible free transfer.

According to CaughtOffiside, Newcastle United are one of the main clubs chasing the Everton man’s signature alongside the likes of West Ham and Wolves.

The report also claims that Nottingham Forest have also entered the conversation as well, but are slighly wary of a making a move due to Calvert-Lewin’s patchy injury record.

Carlo Ancelotti rated Calvert-Lewin highly

Injuries will play a big factor in whether Forest finalise a move for the Everton man, but the City Ground outfit must also recognise the striker’s talents when he can get on the pitch.

Big, strong and lethal in the air, Calvert-Lewin has showcased that he can provide the goods in the Premier League, even impressing the likes of Carlo Ancelotti in the process.

Speaking in October 2020, the then-Everton boss sang the praises of Calvert-Lewin following the striker’s call-up to the England squad (via SkySports).

“He is a complete striker. It is not easy to find a striker with these characteristics,” said Ancelotti.

“He has a lot of energy, is really fast. I am really pleased he is doing well and scoring goals because at the end a striker is judged on the goals he scores.

“It’s a great achievement for him [the England call-up]. I hope it will not be the last. It depends on him. He is doing really well. He needs to have consistency.”
