Blow for Nottingham Forest as £16m midfielder open to leaving as well as Ramon Sosa

Ramon Sosa looks set to depart Nottingham Forest this summer with offers being lined up abroad, but he could well be joined by another of Nuno Espirito Santo’s stars.

It was reported that Sosa had fallen out with Espirito Santo, which made it clear that the Paraguayan’s torrid time at the City Ground would come to an end in the summer.

Forest want to recoup their money for Sosa, which would require a £10m sale, a fee which should be achievable for interested parties in South America, as Boca Juniors showed interest in Sosa in January.

His route out of the Premier League may bypass Argentina, though, as Brazilian sides have taken an interest in the winger, along with another member of the Forest squad who also looks keen on a transfer away.

Danilo is keen on a Brazilian return alongside Ramon Sosa

Danilo didn’t impress against Man City in what has been an underwhelming return from injury for the 24-year-old Brazilian.

His performances have been so flat that Brazilian outlet, Bolavip, have reported that Danilo could well be looking for his own Forest escape to his former club Palmeiras, who are also monitoring Sosa.

The report said: “The big name that Palmeiras wants is Ramon Sosa, from Nottingham Forest, in England. […] However, the Paraguayan may not be the only Nottingham Forest player who could arrive at the Football Academy in the next transfer window.

“This is the former Academy product, Danilo. The midfielder who was important for Verdão during the 2020 to 2022 seasons is in a bad phase at Nottingham Forest and has been left aside by the coaching staff.

“Now in a bad phase at Nottingham Forest, Danilo is looking forward to a return.”

Danilo cost Forest £16m and once looked like he would command a much higher fee if the club ever chose to sell, but Danilo’s injury against Bournemouth seems to have derailed his Forest career.

A move back to Brazil may well reignite his form, but it must be bittersweet given the moves he was linked with previously.

Danilo has been tipped with blockbuster moves in the past

Forest fans had become frustrated by Danilo in his limited chances in recent weeks, with stars such as Elliot Anderson commanding a place in the starting line-up that the Brazilian would’ve once held.

Certainly, before this injury, it seemed that if Danilo were to leave Forest, it would be to one of Europe’s elite sides for a hefty fee, not a return to Palmeiras.

At the end of the 23/24 season, Forest valued Danilo at £35m as his talents began to garner attention, with the likes of AC Milan considering a move for Danilo in the summer window.

It was then reported that Manchester United had enquired about Danilo in a move that never materialised, emphasising how far his stock has fallen if a return to Brazil is the most appealing option.

The Forest manager may have other ideas and want to keep the midfielder, but it looks as if he could be following Sosa out the door at the end of the season.
