Nottingham Forest reach out to Timothy Weah alternative, but there’s a catch Evangelos Marinakis will hate

Nottingham Forest are going to be looking for more firepower next season as the club looks to kick on domestically and in Europe.

Chris Wood scored 20 goals last season, but Taiwo Awoniyi struggled to back him up, scoring just once in the Premier League all season.

Forest have moved to sign Igor Jesus to kick off their summer business and more players look set to arrive at the City Ground before the season gets underway.

The speculation over Anthony Elanga continues to mount. It’s been claimed that Newcastle are admirers of Elanga and will keep pushing for his signing.

Regardless of whether Elanga departs or not, Forest could sell Jota Silva and ultimately, that means new wingers will be necessary to increase the competition for places.

Nottingham Forest want Tajob Buchanan

According to Team Talk, the Reds have now made a concrete enquiry to Inter to assess what will be required to take the winger this summer.

The 26-year-old will be desperate to play some football, having not done too much of that during the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Villarreal.

He made just 20 appearances in all competitions during last season, scoring once and claiming two assists.

Buchanan went to Italy from Club Brugge, where he has registered 17 goal contributions during 67 appearances, but things haven’t worked out for him so far.

It seems as though Forest are keen to take him, however, and have now contacted Inter regarding the 50-time Canada international.

This deal could be one that Forest choose to walk away from pretty quickly, however, with Inter in no rush to sell Buchanan, with that scenario likely to bug Evangelos Marinakis.

Forest can do better than Buchanan

With the player recently recovering from a broken leg, perhaps there is just too much risk involved with this particular deal from a Forest perspective.

Buchanan might only be 26-years-old but there is a sense that he doesn’t really offer too much of an upgrade on Ramon Sosa or Jota Silva.

That said, Bruce Arena called him ‘amazing’ back in 2021 and perhaps there is some untapped potential when it comes to Buchanan.

The player does have some experience of playing in Europe and with the UEFA Conference League on the radar next summer, perhaps he could do a job from the bench and prove that he’s over his serious injury at Forest.
