Nottingham Forest are keen to sign a new striker before the transfer window closes in early February and the clock is now ticking.
Evangelos Marinakis wants a new forward at Forest. Right now, the club have Chris Wood scoring goals and Taiwo Awoniyi backing him up from the bench.
Wood has raved about Awoniyi but his form is a concern. There is a sense that if anything should happen to Wood then European football could prove problematic for Forest.
Matheus Cunha has been linked with Forest. He’s stalling on a new deal with Wolves and with the club now in serious danger of relegation, they may struggle to keep hold of him before the window closes.
Yoane Wissa is another Forest target. He’s now been speaking out on the links between him and a move to the City Ground and he’s delivered an intriguing response.

Yoane Wissa breaks silence on Nottingham Forest links
The 28-year-old is a sound player and has 11 goals to his name in the Premier League this season. On the back of Ivan Toney departing he’s stepped up as the number one striker and his form is good.
Jamie Redknapp thinks Wissa would cost £40 million this month. That would likely price Forest out of the reckoning but it would appear that the striker is aware of the interest.
He told Canal + Sport Africa: “There is an interest, there is an interest. Possible transfer in progress, I cannot say. But it’s true that there has been interest since this summer.
“They are having a very good season and I too am continuing my momentum. But it’s true that for the moment I’m focused on Brentford and we’ll see what happens.
Wissa would be excellent Forest signing
Although he’d cost a lot of money, Wissa would be ideal for Forest. He can operate anywhere across the front third of the pitch and he’d have no requirement to settle in at the club.
However, signing him is unlikely to take place this month. Although he’s remained coy in this interview, it feels as though Forest won’t fork out £40 million to land a 28-year-old.
In the summer, Wissa will have a year to run on his existing deal. As a result, this is perhaps one for Forest to look at should they pip Brentford to a place in Europe at the end of the campaign.
Forest are likely to ramp things up in the coming days as things dwindle to a close. With that in mind, it will be fascinating to see if the Reds make one final attempt to snare Wissa before the window shuts.
