Alexander Isak may be worth £150m but Nottingham Forest star is destroying him in one PL stat

Given how hard it is to find a top striker in the Premier League, form such as Alexander Isak’s at Newcastle is hard to ignore.

Nottingham Forest were shopping in the Premier League for a new striker in January to help boost Nuno Espirito Santo’s chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Evangelos Marinakis was desperate to sign a striker in January and the continuous transfer rumours showed this as Forest were heavily linked with Matheus Cunha from Wolves in an ambitious attempt to prize away their star man.

From the outset, though, it seemed an impossible task as Wolves demanded £70m for Cunha, highlighting how desperate Premier League clubs are to keep hold of their goalscorers with seemingly so few to be found in football.

Forest failed with another Premier League hitman as Brentford rejected Forest’s Yoane Wissa who has scored 11 league goals this season, making him a precious commodity for The Bees.

Arguably, though, the most high-profile and in-demand striker in the Premier League is Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who has seventeen goals this season but is actually being dominated by one of the stars of the Forest squad in one particular attacking statistic.

Chris Wood is streets ahead of Alexander Isak in striking stat

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle value Isak at over £150m should they sell him, with Arsenal heavily rumoured to be interested in the Swedish goal machine.

However, that fee could be slapped on Forest’s Chris Wood instead when comparing the two’s shot conversion percentage in the Premier League this season.

Wood leads the Premier League in shot conversion this season, turning a whopping 37.8% of his shots into goals to the delight of Espirito Santo.

In comparison, Isak is converting 26.6% of his shots which is actually still an impressive stat, which only serves to emphasise how remarkably accurate Wood has been this season at the City Ground.

Both have scored 17 league goals this season, with Wood becoming Forest’s top Premier League goalscorer thanks to his season’s strikes.

With their shot conversion differences, Isak and Wood have a number of interesting statistical variations this season that

How Alexander Isak and Chris Wood compare this season

Chris WoodAlexander Isak
Goals1717
Shots on target per 901.261.60
Chances created per 900.511.80
Dispossessed per 900.701.90
Aerial Duels won per 903.030.95

Wood’s superiority in shot conversion is not the only stat he has over Isak this season, with the New Zealand international also dominating the Newcastle man in aerial duels won per match and in the number of times he is dispossessed per game.

Where Isak shines is creative, creating 1.8 chances per game for his teammates which is something that Wood cannot compete with, leading to the Forest coaching staff creating a system that allows him to always be the final touch to attacks.

However different the two strikers are, Wood and Isak have scored the exact same number of Premier League goals this season which rubs off well on Espirito Santo and Eddie Howe respectively.

With Isak valued at £150m, though, Evangelos Marinakis might want to get his star striker valued to see if a blockbuster deal could be made to prize away his goals.
