Nottingham Forest player slammed by Gary Neville eyed for romantic transfer, but there’s an issue

Nottingham Forest still have some work to do in the transfer market this summer.

Dan Ndoye is set to check in at Forest imminently to replace Anthony Elanga, who joined Newcastle earlier this month.

Forest are also in for James McAtee this summer, with the Manchester City forward the subject of a rejected bid from the Reds.

Danilo and Ramon Sosa have both left Forest this summer, with Lewis O’Brien leaving for Wrexham in a deal worth £5 million.

Jota Silva is wanted by Sporting CP and now another player might be about to leave the City Ground for the final time in the coming weeks.

Matt Turner could join New England Revolution

The situation regarding the outcast Forest goalkeeper is complex.

Turner was set for Lyon when John Textor owned the club, but now the Ligue 1 outfit have called in the lawyers to try and cancel the deal.

Now, according to Tom Bogert, the New England Revolution are trying to re-sign their former stopper, but would only be willing to take him on loan.

Any deal would likely include an option to buy him, but it’s fair to say that things are pretty complex at the moment.

Turner was dropped by Nuno Espirito Santo shortly after joining the club in December 2023.

He has absolutely no future at the City Ground and isn’t even in training with the club right now after spending last season on loan with Crystal Palace.

What Gary Neville said about Matt Turner

After a 2-1 win over Manchester United in December 2023, Neville went to town on Turner.

Some hapless goalkeeping allowed Marcus Rashford to restore parity for Manchester United and Neville called Turner ‘useless with the ball at his feet’ afterwards.

The player’s distribution had been a cause for concern from day one at Forest and he failed to justify a £10 million spend during his 21-game spell at the club.

Moving back to New England would be a romantic transfer in the eyes of Turner as it’s the place he considers home and he previously made 111 appearances for the MLS club.

Hopefully, all parties can make a deal work.
