Nottingham Forest signing ‘did not want to leave’ and could even head out on loan

Nottingham Forest signed 13 new players to bolster Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad, but it seems that one was never fully convinced on the move.

It became clear after Espírito Santo raised his concerns about the Forest squad ahead of the Premier League opener against Brentford that work would need to be done in the transfer market.

Evangelos Marinakis delivered for his manager with a spend of over £200m, including the club record deal that saw Omari Hutchinson arrive at Forest.

However, amid all the excitement, reports are now suggesting that one player in particular was never fully keen on the City Ground move, and could be heading out the door already.

Cuiabano is set to return to Botafogo on loan

One of the final arrivals of the window saw Brazilian left-back Cuiabano sign for Forest from Botafogo, having been heavily linked with the Reds earlier in the window.

It’s since been revealed that Forest paid just £5.2m for Cuiabano in one of the bargains of the window, but according to Ge, the Brazilian wasn’t exactly pushing for the move to go through.

The report said: “The left-back from Cuiabá, who left Botafogo two days ago for Nottingham Forest , is back at the Rio de Janeiro club. The English club accepted a loan offer, and the full-back will remain with the club for a while longer.

“Botafogo had been trying to secure a loan deal for the past few days, and negotiations concluded this Tuesday, the last day of the transfer window. The decision largely hinged on the player’s desire to stay at the club.

“On Monday’s ge Botafogo podcast, former full-back Rafael revealed that the player didn’t want to leave the club.”

Cuiabano met his Forest teammates at the training ground on Monday but, judging by the report, that could well have been his one and only time on Trentside for now. Given the schedule of the Brazilian football season, though, this loan move could work out brilliantly for Forest.

Cuiabano could return to Nottingham Forest at the perfect time

While the deal was close to being concluded, Nottingham Forest News revealed that Cuiabano could leave Forest on loan, a deal made easier by the Reds’ shock capture of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Zinchenko signed for Forest incredibly late on deadline day, providing the left-back cover that has meant that Cuiabano can depart, with the Brazilian potentially set to return at the perfect time.

The Brazilian Serie A season runs until the 21st of December, so Cuiabano would arrive back in a busy period for the Reds. Coincidentally, the Africa Cup of Nations starts on the same day, a time when the Reds will need full-back cover.

With Ola Aina away, Neco Williams could help cover his position on the right, with Cuiabano back to bolster the left side in the meantime, a perfect solution on paper.
