Nottingham Forest were rampant in their 7-0 demolition of Brighton on Saturday, a performance that would’ve greatly pleased Evangelos Marinakis.

There was hope that the team would bounce back from Forest’s defeat to Bournemouth last Saturday, but even the most optimistic fan inside the City Ground couldn’t have expected it to go as perfectly as it did against Brighton.

A Chris Wood hattrick will take the headlines but there were so many impeccable performances from the Forest squad, including Murillo who received praise from Joe Cole on commentary.

Another who starred was Anthony Elanga who picked up three assists in the game. Manchester United fans were enraged by Elanga’s display as his creative excellence is desperately needed at Old Trafford currently.

Marinakis was in attendance at the City Ground to witness the incredible display, with ex-Forest midfielder and current club coach Andy Reid spotting a moment at full-time that showed just how much the club means to the Forest owner.

Watching the game as part of BBC Sport’s Premier League coverage, Reid spotted Marinakis move away from his director’s box at the end of the game to greet his Forest players in the tunnel.

Reid said: “He’s [Marinakis] so passionate. He cares deeply. What he has done is put his money where his mouth is.”

Marinakis also did the same thing when Forest drew with Liverpool earlier in January which can only improve his relationship with the players.

The Forest owner’s passion for his club could never be doubted, recently highlighted by Marinakis taking personal control of negotiating Murillo’s contract to secure one of his most valuable talents.

Marinakis is desperate to sign a striker for Forest too before Monday’s transfer deadline, with his current targets to aid Espirito Santo highlighting how ambitious he is to see Forest return to the pinnacle of European football.

With the hours counting down in the transfer window, Marinakis has made Matheus Cunha his top target to give the Forest manager the attacking firepower to earn the reward for their remarkable form this season.

Forest are willing to break their transfer record for Cunha to outmatch both Arsenal and Aston Villa in the race for the Brazilian, with Marinakis seemingly unfazed by Wolves’ £70m valuation for Cunha.

His ambition is beginning to grab the attention of the wider football world but it has never been in doubt in Nottingham, with the Forest coaching staff always given exactly what they need to give them the best chance at succeeding.

Signings like Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi, as well as more recent deals like Elliot Anderson’s arrival at Forest have indicated Marinakis’ passion for seeing Forest return to the upper echelons of English football, which looks a distinct possibility this season.
